Team Member Spotlight: Autumn Martin, Software Engineer
Here at Hotel Engine, we believe a company is only as extraordinary as its people. We’ve dedicated ourselves to improving the lives of business travelers and want to show off the people who help make that happen. On a regular basis, we will introduce one of our amazing team members to showcase the folks behind the scenes of Hotel Engine.
Autumn Martin recently celebrated her one-year work anniversary having joined us in January 2020 as a Software Engineer. She is a curious and collaborative team member who is always up for a challenge. So, let’s get to know Autumn!
Where are you from?
I started off in Arizona, moved around a lot, and landed here in Colorado about 10 years ago.
Do you have a nickname at work?
Not yet…
What’s your favorite part about your team?
We have an incredibly talented team of people who are amazing to collaborate with. Together, we are passionate about writing scalable, well-crafted code that will serve everyone well into the future.
What’s your spirit animal and why?
A wolf. I admire their pack mentality. They work together, help each other, and pass on knowledge. They are also marathon runners. As a runner, I am inspired by that endurance, tenacity, and ability to explore incredible amounts of acreage.
What do you love about working for Hotel Engine?
So many things that it’s hard to know where to start!
For me, the highest point is the opportunity to grow technically and professionally. We have a strong, collective culture of continuously learning and improving. We also have a ton of interesting problems to work on (adding new features and improving current ones), and my team has always supported me digging in and driving solutions for these problems. There is great opportunity to make an impact and make my voice heard at Hotel Engine. That is possible, most notably, because of our supportive leadership.
What do you think is unique about working at Hotel Engine?
The stellar hotel discounts are a unique perk that has given me the opportunity to explore more of the world!
What does an average day at Hotel Engine look like for you?
I start with a daily standup to check in with our team and prioritize goals. After that, it is a variety of reviewing pull requests, coding, testing my work, adding to our documentation, following up on feedback, collaborating on ideas, and pitching in on deploys.
For meetings, we regularly groom upcoming work, retro past work, and catch up on the latest. I also enjoy our architecture meetings and tech book club. Depending on the day, I have a couple no-meeting-blocks as well to focus on coding.
What do you like to do when you’re not at the office?
I have a lot of curiosity, and I’m always digging into new things. Playing video games, art, music, and skiing are my main interests. Lately, my new thing has been exploring DJing for fun.

The mountains and snow. Skiing here is incredible!
