Hotel Engine Announces Planting of 100,000 New Trees with One Tree Planted

In honor of Earth Day, Hotel Engine is excited to share that 100,000 new trees are being planted in much-needed reforestation areas of the United States. With this achievement, we are proud to meet 40 percent of our 2021 commitment to plant a quarter of a million new trees through our partnership with One Tree Planted, a global reforestation nonprofit.

A quarter of these new trees support the growth of both the salmon and the endangered Southern Resident Orca populations in the Pacific Northwest. Every year, the whales migrate along the West Coast of the U.S. in search of West Coast Chinook salmon, which make up 80% of their diet. However, the number of salmon is diminishing due to loss of habitat and increasing human development and population - which impact the Orca downstream.

Planting trees along rivers and streams of the Pacific Northwest improves the water quality, protects land erosion, adds nutrients for young salmon to grow, and helps provide critical shade over salmon spawning grounds.

The remaining portion of the 100,000 trees will go toward projects to reforest the Chippewa National Forest in Minnesota, which has been hit by wind events, insect and disease; to rehabilitate old, abandoned mining sites in Pennsylvania; and to restore select sites in our home state of Colorado.

As part of Earth Day, we are encouraging anyone with a passion for this project to show your support in the form of donations or volunteer work with One Tree Planted to advance its reforestation efforts around the world.

Since its founding in 2014, the nonprofit has planted more than 15 million trees across North and Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe. Trees are critical to a healthy planet and to healthy human, animal and plant populations. They help clean our air, filter the water we drink and provide habitat to a majority of land species.
